Session Codes Generated Without Internet
GENIE's attendance session codes are generated cryptographically on the lecturer's device using a time-bound offline algorithm. No internet connection is required at the point of code generation or student check-in. When connectivity returns, the session data syncs automatically to the institutional record. A rural campus with intermittent 2G coverage gets the same attendance integrity as a campus with fibre broadband.

Financial hardship, device failure, and digital access inequality are realities that an attendance system cannot ignore without punishing the students least responsible for institutional infrastructure decisions. The GENIE Hardship Registry allows designated academic staff — Level Advisers, Department Administrators, or Course Lecturers — to manually record attendance for any registered student without a device.
