Do I need to install an app to check in?
No. You can check in using WhatsApp (just type your session code) or via the GENIE web check-in page in any browser. The app is optional — it gives you extra features like your full academic record and offline check-in.
What if my GPS location is off or I'm at the edge of the geo-fence?
The geo-fence radius is set conservatively to account for normal GPS drift (typically ±50m). If you're genuinely in the lecture hall and check-in is declined, report it to your lecturer immediately — they can manually mark your attendance with an audit note.
Can my friend check in for me?
No. Every check-in is tied to your verified student identity and requires your physical location. The same rule protects you — no one can falsely exclude you either.
What does my parent actually see?
Your parent receives a WhatsApp message when you check in successfully, and an alert if you miss a class. They do not see your grades or personal messages — only attendance events.
How does GENIE work when there's no internet in my lecture hall?
The GENIE mobile app uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Your phone and your lecturer's phone detect each other passively. Attendance is recorded locally and uploaded when either device gets connectivity.
